Award-winning editor and DEGANZ member Luke Haigh has joined ARC EDIT, a boutique post-production company, for Australian representation.
Luke joins a diverse roster of editors at ARC. His editorial range in film, TV and commercial work makes him a โperfect additionโ according to Peter Sciberras, a fellow editor on the roster.
The easing of border restrictions between Aotearoa and Australia has allowed Luke, who is based out of Auckland, the availability to work from ARCโs Australian studios in Sydney or Melbourne as well as remotely.

The Boosted crowdfunding campaign for Bottle Money is well underway with just under a month to go! Writer/director Rebekah Tyler (DEGANZ) is at the heart of the project, seeking $15,000 to help cover production costs.
Bottle Money takes the viewer inside the world of Nelson, a young man forced to care for siblings Leroy and Ramona, due to the erratic behaviour of their alcoholic mother. The short drama, based in the kitchen-sink realism style, will be a realistic โslice of lifeโ with sensitive themes. Yet, at its heart will reflect the idea that love is the most important element of a childโs well-being.
After being in development for three yearsโnarrowly missing out on funding for the 2021 NZFC Fresh Shorts programmeโthe Bottle Money team is committed to telling this story. Donations gained will go towards production costs during the shoot as well as post-production.

On June 13, before its release in NZ cinemas, DEGANZ is thrilled to be hosting a Film Talk of Nude Tuesday in association with Rialto Cinemas.
Join us for what is sure to be an hilarious night with a screening of Nude Tuesday, followed by a Q&A with director Armagan Ballantyne (DEGANZ) and writer/lead actress Jackie van Beek (DEGANZ), moderated by comedian/actor Chris Parker.
The unique comedy, filled with eccentric characters and a made up language, follows a conservative middle-aged couple who are on a mission to save a failing marriage. The couple end up at a new-age relationship retreat rich in sexual liberation and extreme nudity.
We know as directors, that our films are not just a line of scenes strung together to tell the story.ย Maintaining and amalgamating tone โ the emotional and intellectual heartbeat of cinematic storytellingย โย is what we do. Communicating clearly through all creative departments to maintain a cohesive whole regardingย tone is an essential skill for long-form storytelling.
In this workshop on May 28 with Dame Gaylene Preston, we will discuss issuesย of genre, performance and visualisation. Two actors will join for half the day to explore performance in a masterclass setting.
About Dame Gaylene Preston, DNZM
A leading filmmaker since 1978, working across drama and documentary for cinema and television, Dame Gaylene has made a number of classic New Zealand films includingย Mr Wrong,ย Ruby and Rata,ย Home By Christmas, andย War Stories Our Mothers Never Told Us. Her work, notable for the strength of her human connections and its deep commitment to telling New Zealand stories, have been selected for many film festivals including Venice, Sundance and Toronto.
She is a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and New Zealand Arts Laureate. Dame Gaylene is a committed mentor and has recently taken up an honorary residency at Jesus College Intellectual Hub at Cambridge University.
Whoโs it for?
Directors wanting to better understand tone โ youโll come away with useful ideas that can be applied to your own process, whether youโre directing on your first narrative short film or moving onto longer content (e.g. a first feature or series). This workshop does not cover documentary, but documentary makers interested in directing drama are welcome.

Travel Support
DEGANZ Full members based outside of Wellington and Auckland can apply to the Guild for travel support up to the value of $250 (incl GST). We have two grants available.
To apply you must meet these criteria:
Your primary residence is outside of the Wellington region and Auckland region.
You are a NZ Citizen or permanent resident.
You have a confirmed place in the workshop.
