ATC Lends A Hand for Rehearsal Room

Auckland Theatre Company and Creative Director Colin McColl hosted DEGNZ and Actors Equity members for the latest Auckland Rehearsal Room 10 July.

Craig Watson, Samir Patil, Michael Humphrey and Matt Holmes were the DEGNZ directors who had the benefit of Colin’s long experience directing in theatre and TV.

Joined by experienced and new acting talent, the ATC rehearsal rooms in Dominion Road proved the ideal venue for the directors to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of how to collaborate to get the best performances from their actors.

Rehearsal Room Lifts Spirits In Christchurch

DEGNZ travelled to Chrischurch to hold a Rehearsal Room for local directors and actors on 9 May at Rangiruru Girl’s School.

Directors Louise Leitch, Richard Bell, Scott Flyger and Gillian Ashurst help make up a small, tightknit group of screen practitioners in the Garden City along with very active members of the local acting community who gave their time to participate.

The whole team on the day were thrilled to be practising their craft, facilitated by Katherine McCare who flew in from Wellington to offer her guidance and knowledge.

It was an uplifting experience for all involved!

Directors Make Capital Out of Wellington Rehearsal Room

DEGNZ members Tusi Tamasese, Rachel O’Neill, Juliet Bergh and Jess Feast were joined by a talented group of actors 11 April to practise their craft at Toi Poneke.

Led by the firm guiding hand of actor and director Katherine McCrae, the half-day session proved fruitful for all who attended.

Upcoming Christchurch Rehearsal Room

Our next Rehearsal Room workshop is coming up in Christchurch on Saturday 9 May, from 10am until 2pm.

This workshop beings together professional actors and directors in a safe, supportive environment to practice working with each other on scenes.

You can register on our event page to have your name in the draw to participate. 4 directors and 8 actors will be selected. There will be an experienced moderator guiding each event.

Directors must be DEGNZ members, while actors must be Actors’ Equity members.

Who is The Rehearsal Room for?
Professional actors and directors. It is open to members of all levels of experience; from novices to virtuosos.

Material
Directors will be asked to provide a two-character scene (2 pages) or, if you prefer, a scene will be provided for you.

Structure of the event
Directors and actors will spend time rehearsing their scenes, with emphasis on connection and content.

After morning tea, participants will block their scenes, before presenting them for shooting, followed by viewing and discussion.

The Rehearsal Room is hosted by Directors & Editors Guild of New Zealand and the Equity Foundation, with financial support from New Zealand Film Commission.

The First Rehearsal Room for 2015

We were thrilled to host the Rehearsal Room last Saturday 21st February in Auckland. Moderated by accomplished actor and director Rene Naufahu, four directors and eight actors came together and rehearsed scenes. Rene bought his experience as both an actor having worked with some heavy weight Hollywood directors and his own strengths as a director to guide the directors and actors through the workshop.
