This is a brief update to pass on financial support information from business.govt.nz, which is part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. Click here to learn more about:

ScreenSafe COVID 19 Health and Safety – UPDATE

The Auckland and the Coromandel region has moved to Alert Level 4 for the next 7 days. This came into effect at 11.59pm on Tuesday 17th August.

The rest of New Zealand has moved to Alert Level 4 for the next 3 days. This came into effect at 11.59pm on Tuesday 17th August.

At Alert Level 4, it is likely COVID-19 is not contained.

Risk assessment

  • Sustained and intensive community transmission is occurring.
  • Widespread outbreaks
  • Delta variant

Range of measures that can be applied locally or nationally

  • People are instructed to stay at home in their bubble other than for essential personal movement.
  • Safe recreational activity is allowed in local area.
  • Travel is severely limited.
  • All gatherings are cancelled and all public venues are closed.
  • Businesses are closed except for essential services – for example, supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics, petrol stations and lifeline utilities will stay open.
  • Educational facilities are closed.
  • Rationing of supplies and requisitioning of facilities is possible.
  • Reprioritisation of healthcare services.

What all Alert Levels have in common

At all Alert Levels, essential services including health services, emergency services, utilities and goods transport will remain up and running. PCBU’s must continue to meet their health and safety obligations across all levels.

At all Alert Levels, if there is another emergency, follow normal emergency procedures. Emergency evacuation orders will override COVID-19 Alert System requirements to stay at home.

 

We realise that the unexpected shut down can cause emotional, financial concern, and / or stress.

Draw Open: Table Reads Round 3

Developing a feature film? Why not enter the draw for the next Virtual Table Read. Provided you’re a member of DEGNZ and/or NZWG, submit your script by 3 September!

The winner/winning team will receive a free script-in-development table read with up to six actors to be held on 11 September over Zoom.

Why Should You Enter?

Here are some of the benefits of a table read:

  • Identify what works and what doesn’t in your script
  • Assess the rhythm of the dialogue and the voices of your characters
  • Gain a different perspective from listening to other people read and respond to your script
  • Receive feedback from the actors for your next draft

Past participant writer Nick Ward said, “For me one of the best things about our recent table read was talking to the actors about their characters specifically. When you write you’re juggling many balls so it’s brilliant to have someone drill down into their individual character and give you invaluable feedback.”

Actors are invited to register for each script-in-development table read. Up to six actors will be selected, and will receive a nominal fee as appreciation for their participation.

Christopher Walker’s Doco to Screen as Part of Exhibition

DEGNZ member Christopher Walker’s Spears From All Sides will be screening for three weeks (August 30 – September 19) at the City Gallery in Wellington, as part of the film programme accompanying Brett Graham’s exhibition, Tai Moana Tai Tangata—a cautionary tale about human endeavour in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Filmed over three years, the feature-length documentary follows Opi, a young and charismatic Waorani activist, as he tells the dramatic story of a vehement, community based resistance by tribal communities in Ecuador, one of the most remote and beautiful areas in the world.

Released in 2019, Spears From All Sides has played across the globe, winning multiple festival awards including Best Documentary at the New Earth International Film Festival and the Spirit of Activism Award, at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival.

The documentary is also available to rent on beamafilm.

Woodford-Robinson Lends a Helping Hand to Mr. Corman

Jonno Woodford-Robinson (DEGNZ) has edited three episodes on A24’s comedy-drama series, Mr. Corman, which debuted on Apple TV last week. Members Greg Jennings and Amanda Mulderry served as first assistant editors.

The 10-part series follows fifth-grade teacher Josh Corman as he struggles with anxiety, loneliness, forfeited dreams of a music career, and the sinking suspicion that he sucks as a person. Mr. Corman is created, written, and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who also stars in the lead role.

All episodes of the series were shot in the greater Wellington region earlier this year—with Wellington standing in as suburban Los Angeles—after the pandemic shutdown the production in LA.
