Editors’ Films Feature on MIFFโ€™s Programme

Congratulations to editors Annie Collins and Cushla Dillon who will have their work screened as part of the 69th edition of the Melbourne International Film Festival (Aug 5-22).

Annie edited feature film thriller Coming Home in the Dark, which will screen in cinemas and online. Cushla Dillon was the editor on drama The Justice of Bunny King, which will screen in cinemas on August 7 and August 9 as part of MIFF.

For us in Aotearoa, save the date for August 12. DEGNZ will be hosting a Film Talk for Coming Home in the Dark at Rialto Cinemas Newmarket in Auckland. Director James Ashcroft will be in attendance for a special Q&A. Get your tickets here.

Director Gaysorn Thavat will also join audiences and DEGNZ for a Rialto screening of The Justice of Bunny King on July 29, 6pm. More details here.

TVNZ Drama Series The Panthers Coming Soon

The trailer for the highly-anticipated TVNZ drama series, The Panthers, has been released. The six-part series, two episodes of which have been directed by DEGNZ member Vea Mafileโ€™o, is based on the Polynesian Panthers. Guild members Peter Roberts and Margot Francis were also editors on the series.

A group inspired by the Black Panther movement in the US, The Polynesian Panthers formed to fight the system and became history-making revolutionaries.

There is no release date yet for The Panthers on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ OnDemand, so keep an eye out.

Hochmanโ€™s Young andโ€ฆ Episode Debuts on TVNZ OnDemand

DEGNZ member Gal Hochman has directed, written and produced the third episode of Re: and TVNZโ€™s documentary series, Young andโ€ฆย Titled Young and Canโ€™t Cum, Gal talks to a group of women to uncover what is really happening under the sheets, and why women struggle to orgasm. Gal has also written a companion piece for Re: News, involving the women from the documentary.

The series follows a range of young voices, offering a unique and fresh perspective on what itโ€™s really like to be in your twenties in 21st century Aotearoa, in this collection of compelling, stand-alone documentaries.

We’re Hiring an Events & Membership Coordinator

We are looking for a short-term contractor to join our small, dedicated team in Grey Lynn to assist us with events programmes, workshops, social media marketing, email campaigns, membership administration and office management support.

As Events & Membership Coordinator, you will primarily work alongside the Events & Marketing Manager and have an exceptional eye for detail. This is a new, part-time contractor position starting in early September and ending in mid-December with the possibility of being extended in 2022.

Film Talk: Coming Home in the Dark

Weโ€™re thrilled to be hosting a screening of Coming Home in the Dark, in association with Rialto Cinemas, on August 12. Premiering at Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year, the film follows Alan โ€˜Hoaggieโ€™ Hoaganraad (Erik Thompson), a high school teacher who is forced to confront a secret from his past when a pair of ruthless drifters, Mandrake (Daniel Gillies) and Tubs (Matthias Luafutu), take his family on a nightmare road-trip.

Director James Ashcroft joins us after the screening for a Q&A session, moderated by Hweiling Ow.
